8U - 12U SUMMER TRAVEL BASEBALL
8U
Wellesley's 8U "A-team" will likely participate in the Ashland Sparkler Tournament, and if enough players register and a "B-team" is formed, they will participate in the Hopkinton Sizzler Tournament. While the Sparkler tournament is intended to be more competitive, both tournaments are designed for baseball players of varying skill levels and as an introduction to competitive tournament play, where the principles of good-sportsmanship and fair play are emphasized over game results. Rules are also slightly modified for the age group. Both tournaments run from mid-June through mid-July with the very last possible game taking place on/around July 18. Both tournaments typically have games on the weekends and one game during the week, taking the July 4th weekend off. In order to enter a team in any tournament, we will need at least 11 – 12 fully committed players.
9U • 10U • 11U • 12U
Wellesley will participate in the Tondorf Tournament hosted by Medway, and the Sizzler Tournament hosted by Hopkinton. The Tondorf Tournament runs from mid-June through mid-July with the very last possible game taking place on/around July 18. The Sizzler follows a similar schedule. Both tournaments typically have games on the weekends and one game during the week, taking the July 4th weekend off. In order to enter a team in any tournament, we will need at least 11 – 12 fully committed players in each age group.
10U & 11U District Tournaments
For the 10U & 11U Tondorf teams, there is an option to also participate in the 10U or 11U District Tournament. Each team's participation will be dependent upon a super majority of 75% or more expressing an interest in entering the competition. Those tournaments begins in late June and could run into August if teams happen to advance to the Regional finals.
12U District Tournament (Williamsport)
If you are interested in being considered for or playing on the 12U District Tournament team (i.e. Williamsport team), you should simply register for summer baseball. If selected to the team, your registration will be transferred and adjusted as such. If you are not selected, and still want to play summer baseball, you will then be placed appropriately on a summer team per the standard placement process. If not selected to the District team and you do not want to play on a 12U Sizzler team, you may receive a full refund.
SUMMER BASEBALL SELECTION PROCESS
Summer baseball for our 8U – 12U group is a competitive program where we look to field a team of our top 12 – 14 players at each age to compete in the Tondorf Tournament (or Sparkler for the 8U group). The WYBS Baseball Selection Committee utilizes Spring coach evaluation data, evaluation day rankings and feedback from our independent evaluators to rank players by age cohort following the Spring season. From there, the top 12 players who have registered for summer baseball will be placed on the Tondorf Tournament team for each age group (Sparkler for 8U). If there are 11 or more players remaining who have registered to play summer baseball, those 11- 14 players will be placed on the Sizzler Tournament roster. If enough players are registered, up to 2 Sizzler Tournament teams of 12 – 14 players may be established. All players will be notified no later than June 1 of the team they’ve been selected to.
In all instances, WYBS will do everything it can to allow as many players who want to play competitive summer baseball do so. However, in an effort to ensure ample playing time and maximize the experience for the players, teams will be limited to no more than 14 players, which may require cuts to be made at all levels.
